Best For
Hard Enduro Competitor
You race or train in technical enduro terrain — boulder fields, steep rocky climbs, loose-over-hard — where getting stuck means losing. You know soft compound tires wear faster and you're fine with that because you're chasing grip, not mileage. This tire was engineered for exactly your kind of riding.
Perfect Match
Technical Trail Specialist
You ride gnarly single-track and technical rock sections where a harder compound just won't cut it. You're willing to replace tires more often in exchange for the confidence to push through sections that would stop lesser rubber cold. The EN91EX gives you that mechanical edge on difficult terrain.
Great Match
General Trail Rider
If your rides mix moderate trails, fire roads, and only occasional technical sections, the EN91EX is more tire than you need — and the soft compound will burn through faster than you'd like. An intermediate-compound enduro tire like the Geomax AT81 will give you better longevity and more balanced performance across the variety of terrain you actually ride.

Frequently Asked
The EX version runs a noticeably softer gummy compound tuned specifically for extreme hard enduro conditions — outright traction on rocks and technical terrain is its entire reason for being. The standard EN91 uses a harder, more durable compound that's better suited to general enduro riding where you need the tire to last longer across varied conditions. If you're not regularly riding the hard stuff, the standard EN91 is probably the smarter call.
Shorter than you might want, but that's the trade-off you're making for the grip. Wear life depends heavily on terrain, rider weight, and how hard you're pushing — rocky and abrasive surfaces will eat through it faster. Budget for more frequent replacements than you'd see with an intermediate compound, and treat it as the cost of doing business at that traction level.
We wouldn't recommend it beyond the bare minimum. The soft compound wears extremely fast on pavement, and the tread pattern is designed for dirt and rock, not asphalt. A few miles of street riding to reach the trail won't destroy it, but regular road use will chew through this tire quickly and it won't feel great doing it. Keep it off-road as much as possible.
As the tire leans into a corner, the interior faces of the shoulder knobs get more engagement with the terrain — PCBT increases that surface area so you have a larger effective contact patch mid-turn. Combined with updated tread angles, it makes the tire's behavior more consistent and predictable when you're pushing lean angles on varied or loose surfaces. Basically, it gives you more information and more grip right when you need both.
Dunlop doesn't publish specific pressure targets for the EN91EX, but soft-compound enduro tires generally perform best at the lower end of the pressure range to maximize ground contact. Start at the manufacturer's baseline recommendation, then dial it in based on your terrain, rider weight, and what the tire is telling you. Rocky terrain often rewards a bit less pressure for better compliance and traction.
No — Dunlop's goal with the additional ply was better damping and sidewall stability, not a stiffer or vaguer ride. The added construction helps absorb hard impacts and resists pinch flats in rocky conditions while preserving the sidewall feedback you need to read the terrain in real time. It's a performance reinforcement, not a compromise.
