Best For
Aggressive Commuter
You're on a naked or supersport every day, you take the scenic route whenever possible, and wet roads are part of the deal — not a reason to stay home. The Roadtec 01 SE gives you touring-grade wet confidence in the center with sport-grade lean-angle grip on the shoulders. This is the tire your bike was designed around.
Perfect Match
Canyon Carver
You live for weekend backroads and need a tire that delivers honest feedback mid-corner, not just when things are going smoothly. The SE's progressive shoulder design rewards deliberate riding and handles unexpected rain without turning sketchy. Mileage takes a back seat to feel — and this tire respects that priority.
Great Match
Track-Focused Rider
If the track is your primary office, the Roadtec 01 SE will hold its own at novice to intermediate pace, but its compound and construction are optimized for street versatility, not sustained heat cycling at advanced speeds. Riders pushing hard lap after lap will get more from a dedicated track tire with better edge-grip development under repeated thermal load.

Frequently Asked
The SE reworks the shoulder zone with a more aggressive tread design that approaches a near-slick contact patch once you're past 25 degrees of lean — a significant step up in cornering grip over the standard model. The center section stays true to the original's wet-weather strengths, so you're getting a sportier overall character without losing the rain confidence the Roadtec line is known for.
Street-focused commuter use tends to put riders in the 6,000–6,500 mile range. Mix in regular canyon sessions or the occasional track day and you're more likely looking at 5,000–5,500 miles, particularly on the shoulders. Bike weight and throttle habits play a big role — heavier sport-tourers ridden smoothly will see better longevity than lightweight nakeds ridden aggressively.
They work well for riders running novice or intermediate pace at track days — grip is there and the progressive feel translates nicely to circuit riding. If you're at advanced pace or doing regular multi-day track events, a dedicated tire like the Metzeler Racetec RR is the better call. The SE's compound prioritizes street versatility over repeated heat cycling under sustained high loads.
In straight-line wet conditions, the Roadtec 01 SE is excellent — the center section uses the same water evacuation architecture as the full touring Roadtec 01, and ABS compatibility is dialed in. At deeper lean angles in the rain, the sportier shoulder design has slightly less siping than traditional touring rubber, but the feedback remains predictable and planted rather than nervous.
Metzeler specifically targeted naked and supersport platforms — think Yamaha MT series, Triumph Street Triple, KTM SuperDuke, Kawasaki Z900, and comparable bikes that straddle performance and daily use. The geometry, weight distribution, and chassis dynamics of these bikes were factored into the tire's design. Aggressively ridden sport-tourers can also benefit from the SE's performance bias.
We don't recommend it. The Roadtec 01 SE's dual-zone tread design creates a specific progression of grip and feedback from upright to full lean — mixing front and rear models from different lines disrupts that balance and can introduce unpredictable handling characteristics mid-corner. Run a matched set front and rear for the experience Metzeler engineered this tire to deliver.
