Dynatread™ adaptive tread geometry reshapes the contact patch as lean angle and wear progress — grip stays consistent, not just at the edges but through the full corner arc
Race-derived compound formula delivers serious edge grip on both public roads and track surfaces without requiring tire warmers to wake up
Construction tuned for direct, communicative feedback — you feel what the tire is doing through the bars and pegs, which matters when you're threading a technical canyon section
Mid-corner stability is a standout strength — the RS holds its line confidently under load, supporting late-braking and aggressive trail-braking entry
Evolved RS-spec platform sharpens everything over the standard Sportec™ 01: quicker turn-in, higher edge grip, more precise steering response
Dual-environment fitment — street-legal with DOT compliance, capable enough for 4-6 track days per season without constant tire management

Best For
Track Day Regular
You're on track four to six times a season and you're not babying it in between. The Sportec™ 01 RS was designed for exactly this rotation — aggressive street use as your baseline, track sessions as the main event, and zero desire to deal with mounting a separate set every time you head to the circuit.
Perfect Match
Canyon Carver
Weekend mornings on the Angeles Crest or Ortega Highway, pushing hard through technical sweepers, chasing feedback and edge grip over comfort or longevity. The RS rewards committed riding — if you're willing to trade tire life for confidence at full lean, this is your tire.
Great Match
Sport-Touring Rider
If your riding diet is heavy on commuting, highway miles, and mixed conditions — with only occasional spirited stretches — the RS will wear faster than you'd like and feel like overkill most of the time. The Metzeler Roadtec 02 or Sportec™ M9 RR will hold up better and still reward when the road gets interesting.

Frequently Asked
Plan for roughly 3,500 to 5,000 miles depending on how hard you ride and how heavy your bike is. This is a grip-first tire — Metzeler traded long wear life for compound performance, and that's the deal. Heavier sport bikes with aggressive riders will burn through the lower end of that range; smoother riders on middleweight machines can push toward the top.
No — the Sportec™ 01 RS is designed to come up to operating temperature without warmers, which makes it genuinely accessible for open track days and HPDE events. A controlled warm-up lap or two is all it takes. If you're a frequent track regular running back-to-back sessions, warmers can help extend tire longevity, but they're not required to use this tire safely.
The RS gets a more aggressive compound and a construction tuned for sharper response — think quicker turn-in, higher edge grip, and more immediate feedback at the limit. The trade-off is shorter wear life compared to the standard version. If performance is the priority and you're willing to replace tires more often, the RS is the right call.
Dynatread™ is Metzeler's approach to optimizing the contact patch as lean angle increases and as the tire wears over its life. In real-world terms, it means the transition from upright to full lean feels consistent and predictable rather than abrupt, and the tire doesn't get sketchy as it ages. It's the kind of technology you notice most when you're deep in a corner and the grip is exactly where you expect it.
It handles light rain and damp pavement reasonably well for a sport-focused tire — wet grip scores a 7.8, which is respectable in this category. That said, it's not engineered as an all-weather tire, and cold heavy rain will push it past its comfort zone. If you're regularly riding in challenging weather or doing year-round commuting, a sport-touring tire will serve you better.
Start with the manufacturer's cold pressure recommendations — typically around 36 psi front and 42 psi rear for street use. For track sessions, many riders drop 2 to 3 psi cold to compensate for heat buildup during hard running, but that number depends on your pace, bike weight, and the specific track. Check hot pressures after your first session and dial from there; never set pressures hot before going back out.
