The tires remain safe past that point, but the performance edge that defines the GP2 softens noticeably. Street miles between track days don't have a significant impact on heat-cycle count.

Not necessarily. The GP2 is engineered to come up to operating temperature through a couple of controlled warm-up laps, making it accessible for novice and intermediate track groups without warmers. That said, if you're running advanced sessions and want maximum grip from lap one, warmers are worth the investment.

Plan for roughly 3,500 to 5,500 miles on the rear, depending on your riding style, how hard your bike puts power down, and the road surfaces you cover most. Hard-charging riders on big-displacement liter bikes tend to land at the lower end; smoother riders on 600cc machines often push toward the higher figure. Fronts typically outlast two rear replacements.

Michelin recommends running a matched GP2 front and rear pair, and we'd echo that advice. Mixing tires — even within the same Power lineup — can produce inconsistent feedback between the two ends of the bike, especially at the pace these tires are designed for. The system is tuned to work together.

It's usable in light rain if your inputs are smooth, but it's not designed to compete with touring-focused wet-weather rubber. The compound prioritizes dry traction, and the tread pattern moves less standing water than you'd get from something in the Road series. If you're riding in Orange County's occasional winter rain, give yourself extra margin — or consider a tire with a stronger wet score for year-round use.

Start with Michelin's published cold street pressures (typically around 36 psi front, 42 psi rear) and adjust from there. For track use, many riders drop two to four psi cold to account for heat buildup during sessions. A tire pyrometer is the right tool for dialing in your setup — look for even temperatures across the tread face as a sign your pressures are in the right neighborhood.
