Best For
Desert Racer
You're running multi-stage desert events where the terrain changes under you every few miles and your support crew is nowhere close. This tire was designed exactly for that scenario — reliable, flat-resistant, and consistent when the stakes are highest.
Perfect Match
Adventure Explorer
You push deep into backcountry desert and remote trail systems where a mechanical failure isn't just inconvenient — it's a serious problem. The Desert IT's reinforced build and extended wear life give you the confidence to commit to longer routes without babying your tires.
Great Match
MX Track Specialist
If groomed motocross tracks are your primary stomping ground, this isn't your tire. The harder compound and stiffer carcass trade outright MX grip for desert durability — the Maxxis MaxxCross MX-ST is the better fit for consistent track conditions.

Frequently Asked
It'll roll around a groomed MX track just fine, but you're leaving performance on the table. The harder compound and stiff carcass are tuned for desert longevity and flat resistance — not for maximum bite on a prepped track. If you primarily ride MX circuits, look at a dedicated MX compound instead.
The stiffer sidewall keeps the tire stable and predictable when you drop pressures in soft sand, and it dramatically cuts your pinch-flat risk over sharp rocks. You may notice slightly less small-bump compliance compared to a softer MX carcass, but out in the desert that trade-off is absolutely worth it.
The reinforced construction lets you go lower than you could with a standard MX tire — many riders run 10–12 psi in sandy terrain to broaden the contact patch. That said, pressure is always bike-, weight-, and terrain-dependent, so dial it in for your specific conditions and pay attention to how the tire behaves.
The harder compound is formulated to hold up on abrasive desert surfaces far longer than a typical soft MX tire. Real-world longevity varies with riding intensity and terrain mix, but many riders report well over 500 miles of mixed desert use — significantly better than what you'd get from a softer compound.
You can, but it's not where this tire shines. In deep mud or very soft, wet terrain, you'd be better served by a tire with wider-spaced, more aggressive knobs designed to self-clean. The Desert IT's compound is also harder than a mud-specific tire, so expect reduced grip when things get wet and slippery.
Start with your owner's manual for the OEM-recommended size, then verify compatibility with the Desert IT's available fitments. This tire covers a solid range of popular desert and off-road bikes including many KTM and Honda platforms. Call us at (714) 516-9059 and we'll confirm fitment before you order.
