Overlap splice construction bonds more material at the joint than butt-splice designs, delivering a stronger tube wall that handles constant flexing under load
Splice is located 180° opposite the valve stem — counterbalancing its weight and helping reduce vibration at speed
Airstop compound holds air more consistently over time and fights pinch flat damage better than standard rubber formulations
Survives multiple tire-change cycles without cracking or weakening — lowering your real cost-per-service over time
Covers a wide size range: sport, street, off-road, and dual-sport fitments on a single platform
Built to OEM and racing specifications — the same standard professional shops and factory service departments rely on

Best For
Classic & Vintage Enthusiast
You're running spoke wheels on a classic or vintage bike that demands tube-type tires. You do your own wrenching, you care about every component you put in, and you want a tube that's going to last through multiple tire swaps without any drama. Michelin Airstop is exactly what you're looking for.
Perfect Match
Adventure & Dual-Sport Rider
You're pushing tube-type wheels into rough terrain, remote trails, and variable conditions where a tube failure is a real problem — not just an inconvenience. The pinch-flat resistance and robust splice construction of the Airstop make it a smart choice for riders who can't afford a breakdown far from help.
Great Match
Budget-Conscious Commuter
If your main goal is the cheapest tube on the shelf and you're not putting hard miles on the bike, there are lower-cost options out there. That said, the Airstop's durability across multiple tire changes can make it the better value in the long run — worth considering before defaulting to the bargain bin.
Consider economy-tier alternatives if upfront cost is the primary concern

Frequently Asked
A butt splice joins two tube ends edge-to-edge — a minimal bond that becomes a stress concentration point as the tube flexes. An overlap splice layers the material, spreading that stress over a larger bonded area. It takes more work to manufacture correctly, but the result is a joint that holds up far better through the thousands of flex cycles a tube sees in normal use.
Your valve stem adds a small but real amount of weight at one point on the tube. By placing the splice — which is slightly thicker and heavier than the surrounding wall — directly across from it, Michelin builds in a natural counterbalance. The result is a more evenly weighted tube that contributes less to rotational vibration at highway speeds.
Technically yes, but we don't recommend it as a permanent setup. Tubeless wheels are designed to seal directly with a tubeless tire, and that system's biggest advantage is a slow, controlled leak rather than a sudden blowout. Putting a tube in there gives up that safety margin. Tubes belong in tube-type wheels — or as a temporary trail fix in a tubeless setup when you're trying to get home.
Check the sidewall of your tire and match those dimensions to the tube's listed size range — a tube marked 3.25/3.50-18, for example, is designed to work with tires from 3.25 to 3.50 wide on an 18-inch rim. Also pay attention to valve stem length if you're running a deep-section rim. When in doubt, bring your wheel into MTC and we'll sort it out — call us at (714) 516-9059.
Standard best practices apply: dust the tube lightly with talc to prevent sticking inside the tire, partially inflate it before mounting so it holds its shape and doesn't get pinched, and make sure nothing is twisted once it's seated. The overlap splice area is marginally thicker than the rest of the tube, so be deliberate with your tire levers near that section to avoid catching it. Take your time and work methodically.
Most tube wear happens during mounting and dismounting, not while you're riding. Budget tubes often show cracking or surface degradation after just one or two tire changes. Airstop tubes routinely survive three or more full tire-change cycles in good shape, which changes the math on the higher upfront price pretty quickly. If you're the kind of rider who swaps tires regularly, the Airstop earns its cost.
