Best For
Canyon Cruiser
You're on a V-twin bagger or custom every weekend — highway on the way out, twisty backroads once you get there. You're done with tires that force you to choose between handling feel and acceptable mileage. The Cruisetec was built for exactly this riding profile.
Perfect Match
All-Weather Tourer
You rack up serious annual miles in all conditions and you can't afford to get caught out in the rain on a tire that goes vague. The Cruisetec's 8.5 wet grip score and extended groove pattern give you real confidence when the skies open up — with more responsive handling than most traditional touring rubber offers.
Great Match
Pure Highway Cruiser
If your riding is mostly interstate slab with very little cornering and you want to squeeze every possible mile out of a tire, the Cruisetec's performance compound is working harder than you need it to. The Marathon 888 is a better fit — built for maximum longevity and straight-line stability over dynamic handling.

Frequently Asked
Think of them as two different philosophies within the same brand. The Cruisetec uses a dual-compound rear and higher-performance compound to deliver better cornering grip and more responsive handling — it's the choice when your ride involves real canyon miles. The Marathon 888 is optimized for longevity and straight-line highway stability. If you push through corners, go Cruisetec. If you're mostly slab, the 888 makes more sense.
Most riders see somewhere between 8,000 and 12,000 miles from the rear, depending on bike weight, riding style, and road conditions. Riders who lean the bike hard on canyon runs regularly will land toward the lower end of that range. Mix in a fair amount of highway miles and you're looking at 9,000–10,000 miles as a reasonable expectation. Fronts typically go 12,000–18,000 miles.
Yes — the Cruisetec is built with fully loaded V-twin platforms in mind. The dual-compound rear manages the torque output and added weight of bikes like Road Glides and Street Glides whether you're solo or carrying a passenger and gear. The tread design maintains stability under load without going wooden or unpredictable.
Two things working together: the high-silica compound stays pliable at lower temperatures, improving adhesion to wet pavement on a molecular level rather than just relying on groove drainage. And the extended groove pattern actively moves water out from under the contact patch as you lean. The result is a tire that feels planted and honest in the rain — not vague like a lot of cruiser rubber tends to get.
Metzeler engineers the front and rear as a system, and we recommend running them as a set for the best handling balance. Mismatched tires — even quality ones from other brands — can create inconsistent behavior during transitions and mid-corner adjustments. When you're in for a rear swap at MTC, it's worth discussing the front condition at the same time.
Yes — plan for roughly the first 100 miles to be relatively easy riding. Manufacturing release agents need to wear off the tread surface before the tire reaches full grip. During break-in, keep lean angles conservative and avoid hard braking or aggressive acceleration. After that, the tire is fully scuffed in and you can ride it the way it was designed to be ridden.

Metzeler Cruisetec Tires in Orange County — MTC

Motorcycle Tire Center in Orange, CA stocks the Metzeler Cruisetec for V-twin riders throughout Orange County — from Anaheim and Fullerton to Newport Beach, Mission Viejo, Irvine, and Huntington Beach. The Cruisetec earns its place as Metzeler's performance pick in the cruiser segment by pairing a dual-compound rear with a high-silica formulation that genuinely delivers in wet conditions. If your riding involves any real canyon roads or unpredictable Southern California weather, this tire handles both better than most of the competition in its class.

At MTC, we sell the Cruisetec at below-MSRP dealer pricing and mount it the same day — walk-ins welcome. Our standard installation is $69 mount, $9.95 balance, and $3.50 disposal per tire, with no appointment needed. Our technicians work on cruisers and baggers daily and can confirm fitment across the Cruisetec's 28-size lineup for your specific bike before we put it on the machine.

Have questions about whether the Cruisetec is the right call versus the Marathon 888 for your riding style? Give us a call at (714) 516-9059 — we'll give you a straight answer based on how and where you actually ride, not just push the more expensive option. That's the MTC difference: tire expertise without the upsell.
