- Cruiser & touring tires — harder, mileage-oriented compounds meant to cover long distances; generally the longest-lived.
The spread between a soft sport compound and a hard touring compound is large — often several times the mileage. That's why “how many miles” can't be answered without knowing the tire and the rider.
Why the Rear Tire Wears Faster Than the Front
If you've noticed your rear tire needs replacing sooner, that's normal. The rear does more of the hard work:
- It puts the engine's power to the road — every acceleration scrubs rubber off the rear.
- It handles most of the braking-and-drive load and carries more of the bike's and rider's weight, especially two-up or loaded.
- The front mostly steers and shares braking, so it wears more slowly and often more evenly.

Because rubber ages regardless of use, a tire with barely any miles can still be due for replacement on age alone.
