Best For
Desert Runner
You put in real miles — sand washes, rocky two-track, open hardpack at speed. You're not chasing outright soft-surface bite; you're chasing a tire that won't flat out in the middle of nowhere. The Coronado's 8-ply carcass and durable compound were made for exactly that kind of riding.
Perfect Match
UTV Trail Rider
Your routes mix surfaces, but the fast, rocky sections are where things get real. You want a tire that stays consistent mile after mile without surprises. The Coronado delivers longevity and predictable handling across mixed desert terrain — not flashy, just dependable.
Great Match
Mud & Technical Terrain Rider
If your riding centers on deep mud, rock crawling, or tight technical trails where aggressive void space and soft-surface bite are essential, the Coronado isn't your tire. Its desert-tuned tread design won't clear mud efficiently or grip in the conditions you're chasing — look at a dedicated mud-terrain option instead.

Frequently Asked
No — the Coronado is strictly an off-road tire and does not carry DOT street approval. Its compound and tread geometry are dialed in for loose-over-hard desert surfaces, not pavement. Running it on the street regularly will accelerate wear and won't deliver the handling it's designed for.
The added plies do increase sidewall stiffness, but the radial construction helps absorb trail impacts better than you'd expect from a bias-ply tire with a similar rating. Most desert riders find the tradeoff well worth it — especially after their first rocky section at speed.
Maxxis engineered the front and rear Coronados to work together as a matched system, and mixing brands can throw off the handling balance — particularly at the higher speeds desert riding involves. For best results, run the full front/rear setup.
Deep mud, snow, and slow technical rock crawling are outside its wheelhouse. The Coronado's tread pattern and compound are optimized for desert environments — hardpack, loose-over-hard, and rocky high-speed terrain. If those aren't your primary surfaces, a different tire will serve you better.
On hardpack and loose-over-hard desert, it's excellent. In deep, soft dune sand, the high land-to-sea ratio center section doesn't provide the flotation you'd get from a paddle or dune-specific tire. If you split your time heavily between dunes and hardpack, factor that in before committing.
Wear life depends on riding style and how abrasive your terrain is, but the Coronado's compound is genuinely built for durability — it scores near the top of its class in longevity. Riders who push hard in high-heat desert conditions consistently report strong mileage compared to competing off-road radials.
