Best For
Trail-Focused Dual-Sport Rider
Your plated enduro or dual-sport bike spends most of its life on dirt — singletrack, fire roads, and technical trails — with just enough pavement mixed in to get between trailheads. You want a tire that holds its line in loamy conditions and doesn't fold under aggressive off-road inputs, and you're fine accepting modest street longevity as the trade-off.
Perfect Match
Weekend Enduro Racer
You run local and regional enduro events and need a tire that can deliver genuine competition performance in soft-to-intermediate terrain while still passing DOT inspection. You understand that soft compound means faster wear on the street, and you're making that call consciously in exchange for real off-road grip and compliant carcass feel.
Great Match
Adventure Tourer or Pavement-Heavy Commuter
Your riding skews 50/50 or favors the highway — long paved stretches, gravel connectors, and only occasional light trail work. You need predictable street manners, meaningful tread life, and all-weather consistency across mixed surfaces. The EF 2 SM's soft compound will wear faster than you want under those conditions.

Frequently Asked
Yes — it carries a DOT approval and is rated for 20/80 road-to-dirt use, so it's street-legal for dual-sport applications. That said, it's built around off-road performance, not pavement. Don't expect the wear life of a 50/50 tire if you're putting down regular highway miles.
Mitas uses the green stripe to identify their soft enduro compound. It's a softer, more pliable rubber formulation that generates serious traction in wet, loose, and loamy terrain. The trade-off is that it wears more quickly on hard pavement than a standard dual-sport or intermediate compound would.
The EF 2 SM was dialed in for soft and intermediate conditions — loamy singletrack, wet forest trails, damp fire roads, loose soil, and rooty terrain. If your local trails run on the wetter or looser side, this is the compound that stays planted when others skip. It's not the right call for hardpack or dry motocross conditions.
The lightweight flexible construction lets the tire conform to irregular terrain — rocks, roots, ruts — rather than bouncing off them. That translates to better feedback, improved compliance on technical ground, and less arm pump over a long ride. It also reduces rotating weight, which makes the bike feel quicker and more responsive in tight trail situations.
It's not the right tool for that job. The EF 2 SM is optimized for enduro-style soft-to-intermediate terrain, and the open tread pattern and soft compound don't perform as well when the ground gets hard and dry. For hardpack or MX use, you'd want a firmer compound with a tighter, more aggressive knob pattern.
Lifespan depends almost entirely on how much pavement you're putting under it. In predominantly off-road use, the EF 2 SM holds up well for a soft-compound enduro tire — Mitas engineered it to survive multi-day events. Add regular highway miles to the mix and the soft compound will wear noticeably faster. If your rides are more paved than dirt, a harder 50/50 compound will serve your wallet better.
